2017 Lexus LX vs. 2017 Toyota Land Cruiser
Any off-road enthusiast new or old knows that the Toyota Land Cruiser is one of the first names in adventure-made SUVs. If the 2017 Land Cruiser is at the top of your list, that’s no surprise; the newest version is as intelligent as it is powerful and imposing. But what would you say if we told you that there was an alternative that is more powerful, more versatile, and more luxurious and doesn’t cost all that much more than Toyota’s vaunted off-roader? The 2017 Lexus LX does everything that the Land Cruiser does, and it quite often does it better.
Interior & Design
On the outside, the 2017 Toyota Land Cruiser is about as no frills as it gets; on the other hand, the 2017 Lexus LX stands out with crisp lines, a bold face, and a more athletic stance than its Toyota brethren. Additionally, where the Land Cruiser is offered with 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, the Lexus LX offers the option of standard 20-inch five-spoke alloy wheels or available 21-inch split-10-spoke alloy wheels to let you stand just a bit taller. On the inside, both the Toyota and Lexus are offered with leather seating, but only the LX offers three distinctive color and trim combinations at its Luxury trim level: Parchment leather with Matte Walnut Open Pore trim, Black leather with Dark Brown Walnut trim, or Cabernet leather with Linear Espresso wood trim. While the interior of the Land Cruiser is luxurious in its own right, Lexus personifies luxury with its interior offerings.
Technology & Safety
The Toyota Land Cruiser is regarded as highly as it is by off-road aficionados because it provides the peace of mind that comes with being able to weather even the harshest of terrains. But for as great as the Land Cruiser’s reputation may be, the Lexus LX provides a commensurate level of protection. Further, the Lexus LX 570 comes standard with the Lexus Safety System+, an advanced multi-view monitor, premium triple-beam LED headlamps, and one year of complimentary Lexus Enform Safety Connect. Features like Crawl Control and Hill-Start Assist Control make the 2017 LX every bit as capable on rough terrain as the Land Cruiser, and the industry’s first 12.3-inch high-res split-screen multimedia display makes navigating those terrains all the easier while putting the LX in a class of its own.
The 2017 Land Cruiser’s reputation for power is well-deserved with its standard 5.7-liter V8, which doles out 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque. What you might not know is that the 2017 Lexus LX is more powerful; its 5.7-liter V8 generates 383 horsepower and 403 lb-ft of torque, getting more from the same engine. Of the two, the Lexus LX is also the only one to be offered with a driver-selectable suspension. Its Multi-Terrain Select System allows drivers to choose from five different terrain types: Rock, Rock & Dirt, Mogul, Loose Rock, and Mud * Sand.
The 2017 Toyota Land Cruiser is a formidable SUV that clearly earns its celebrity, but the 2017 Lexus LX provides the same or better in most areas of interest while providing more luxurious amenities and a more exciting exterior.
